Stephanie's Friday Movie Pick: Let Me In

Let Me In
Release Date: October 1, 2010
Starring Cody Smith-McPhee, Chloe Moretz, Richard Jenkins, Cara Buono and Elias Koteas
Rated R (Overture Films)

My pick is Let Me In, a remake of the 2008 film Let the Right One In from Norway. It stars Kodi Smith-McPhee as a young boy that becomes friends with Abby (Chloe Moretz), the new girl in town. Unbeknowst to him, but knowst to us, she is a vampire.

I love a good vampire movie. Nothing is better for me than curling up on the couch and
watching someone have the blood drained from their bodies. Its a little weird, I'll admit, but there's something so intriguing about the gore and the sex appeal of it all. My inner-girl even likes the Twilight movies (SPARKLES!!!). This movie is nothing like that series, fingers crossed. Far more dark and carnal, Abby isn't a total whiner. She doesn't run through the forest picking off Bambi's relatives. She preys on humans and isn't afraid of it. I dig that in a vampire.

This film has a terrific story and great special effects to back it up. If they stayed faithful to the original movie, it will blow your minds. It has the atmosphere that you want in a vampire movie: the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end and you know someone's gonna die. If your'e jumpy, I'd suggest you skip on the refreshments.

Note from Liz: If I had gotten to my picks yesterday, it would have been a tie between this and The Social Network. I LOVE horror films, and this one is a very promising offering. The trailer is super creepy, and the Morse code at the end of the international version spells "help me," which is freaky. Check it out:

Chloe Moretz has huge potential for this type of film. She's got that kind of creepy little girl thing going for her, and she can handle action scenes better than most adult actors. And I love how Elias Koteas went from being Casey Jones in the Ninja Turtle movie to being the go-to guy for the "older priest/police officer" role in movies. I'm definitely planning on seeing this one.

  1. Liz, I had no idea this movie even existed, but it sounds SO good! I want to see Social Network too, but in the preview for it, it seems so random to me that Justin Timberlake is in it. Have you thought about this? I think I'll just have to see it to understand. Thanks for the info on Let Me In. I love horror movies too, even though sometimes it seems too real! Nothing wrong with a good vamp flick though!

  3. Ashlie,
The toolbar is from Wibiya.com. They have a really simple creation and coding interface on their website. Thanks for the Versatile Blogger Award! :)

As far as The Social Network having JT in it, I think Timberlake is trying to move his career more into the acting direction at this point. He plays the creator of Napster and is a greedy, self-absorbed mentor for Jesse Eisenberg's character. I'm really excited to see how he handles the role.

    Thanks for the comments! :)
