Stephanie's Friday Movie Pick: Megamind

This Week's Pick:
Megamind
Release Date: November 5, 2010
Rated PG (Dreamworks)
Starring Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, David Cross and Tina Fey

Megamind is a 3D computer animated comedy film starring Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt as Megamind and Metro Man, two aliens sent to earth by their parents. Tina Fey voices Roxanne Ritchi, a news reporter that reminds me an awful lot of Lois Lane. Because there can only be one hero, Megamind is a super villain at the beginning of the film, until he defeats Metro Man, who then retires from the super hero world. Bored without his archrival, Megamind creates a new super hero named Titan (voiced by Jonah Hill). Trouble is, Titan wants to be a villain. When he tries to take over the world, its up to Megamind to save the day.

Early in Will Ferrell's movie career, I didn't really like what I was seeing. Lately though, his work has been really funny. The Other Guys was pretty awesome. This looks like it'll be another win in the Will Ferrell world for me. Besides, who doesn't love something that makes fun of the Superman origin story? I have a feeling this movie is going to make me laugh just as much as when I found out what pink kryptonite does.

This movie has something for everyone. The kids will love its message that anyone can be a hero, even if your entire body is blue and your head is about 5 times the size of all the other people. I think the parents will like a lot of the jokes in there. And, with a 96 minute run time, they won't be beating their heads against the seat in front of them, praying for the end. Snacks are definitely a must.
